Adelaide Cobras 1 def Campbelltown City 0

Adelaide Cobras fought out a 1 nil win against it more fancied opponent in Campbelltown City. The Cobras seemed to settle quickly and it took 10 minutes  after a beautiful waited through ball from Jamie Carbone to set up Alex Jackson who caressed the ball pass the
Devils keeper.

Both teams had plenty of chances but could not finish, the main break saw the Cobras 1 nil
up with ½ of football remaining. The Devils came out with all guns blazing looking for that equalizer, but a testament to the Cobras defence who stood firm on everything in front of them. The 84th minute saw

Campbelltown’s Calvin Mbarga stretched from the ground after colliding with a cobra player, suffering suspected broken ribs. Full credit to the playing group who stuck to their guns and held on for a hard deserving win

Round 3 Carlsberg Cup - City 2 def Cobras 1-11.30pm
 FEB

Cobras give it all and were unlucky not to go home with a win or at least a draw, both teams started  strong with chance gone begging at both ends of the ground. It took City about 17minutes to open their account with a well timed strike from Anthony Costa. The Cobras pressed and forced a well deserved corner to equalise 2 minutes later from Striker Kerry Philippou who was waiting to hit the loose ball home for the Cobras. At the main break saw both teams level at 1 a piece.

The second half brought more of the same as the first with The Cobras having plenty of the play and looked like breaking away, but could not capitalize on the hard work form  the defence, Craig Mullen’s performance in defence was exceptional, breaking down numerous attacks from the Adelaide City Strikers. City second goal came in the  65minute, poor defending on the right allowed a cross to come with Nicholas Bucco waiting to strike the ball through the keepers legs. Overall the Cobra boys played exceptional football and should be appy with their performance.

 Cobras CRASH at Home-19.00pm
AUG

It  was  labelled  the  game  of the round, with  so much at stake  both teams were determined to get the upper hand. The foxes drew first blood from kick off, it must and would possibly go down as the quickest goal in the Premier  League  this season,  in less  than a minute  the  Foxes  were 1 nil up. As both sides missed opportunities it was  Cumberland who looked more  settled  than the home side, as they stretched their lead in the 35 minute, to go 2 nil up at the break. The second half saw a  different Cobras outfit as they dominated  play  all  over  the  ground  the  Cobras  clawed  one back in the 50th minute,  with  a Kerry Philippou trademark header into the back of the net. The  Cobras  were  pressing and the shear pressure caused the Foxes to make mistakes capitalising on a back pass to the  keeper who picked up the ball, as the free kick was awarded  Con Karritevlis stepped up and slotted the equaliser in the 60th minute. It was game  on as  Cumberland  lifted as  they  knew a win  would send them  into the Playoffs,  both  missing golden chances to take the lead, but it was Cumberland  who  stood firm and  pinched the  winner in the 85th minute from a corner which came out from the scramble and the shot took a deflection and went in. It was a great game and I must say the officials did a pretty good job and where consistent with their decision making.

6  A Must WIN for Cobras to make top 5-19.10pm
AUG

The Cobras must win it's last home match of the season, against Cumberland United if it is to make the top 5 playoffs. With a mixed results falling nicely for the Cobras
it now has it's own destiny it it's hands. A win and they are in anything less just won't cut. The game aims to be a real corker as both teams will be out for survival to play in the playoffs. Both teams are evenly match other than the home ground advantage it’s anybody’s game. So we are calling on ALL COBRAS supporters to get behind
the boys as they push for that elusive 5th spot.

COME COBRAS LETS MAKE SOME NOISE

6  Match Summary Cobras v Pirates-18.50pm
 AUG

Under 19: The day started with both teams attacking, and keeping the keepers very busy at both ends, the 1/2 time break saw the Pirates take a 1 nil lead, and looking a lot more settled than the home team. Under 19 full time score saw the Pirates hold on to their lead and finish the game with a 1 nil win of the Cobra, the win now secures a top 5 place with one game remaining. The loss for the Cobras sees it close he season around 7-8th position depending on other results.

Reserves: The 5th placed Pirates play 6th placed Cobras both on 21pts and a win for either side will give them the upper hand in ensuring they make the playoffs. Halftime saw the Pirates take a deserved 1 nil lead as chances go begging from both sides, aftrer the break the Cobras hit back to level the scores at 1-1, with about 10 minutes remaining both teams are digging deep, to score that winner. Cobras score a late winner in the 87th minute to take the points in a thriller and move into the top 5 a draw next week should see it secure 5th spot. Well done

Seniors: This game is vital for both teams as the Pirates sitting comfortably in 3rd place have secured their position in the playoffs and are now eyeing off top spot. The 7th placed Cobras are in the race with 5 other teams able to take position 4 and 5 in the playoffs. The Cobras could finish as high as 4th, if it wins it's remaining 2 games or as low as 9th if it looses and results go against it. The first half brought out the best in the keeprs as both teams came close to scoring, but ended in a 0-0 at half time. The second half started well with both sides having ample times to take the lead
in the end the game was a stalemate and both shared the points in a nil all draw.

4  Cobras need win to Push for Playoffs-20.55pm
 AUG

Cobras are confident they can pull off a win against the inform Pirates on Saturday 6 August 2011, even though going down 2-0 to Adelaide Comets last week. The boys understand what is need to ensure they keep their top 5 playoffs a live. Their preparation has been exceptional this week and full of confidence they can deliver the result the club is looking for, this won’t be an easy game as the Pirates are vying for top spot and will stop at nothing to get the result they want.

23 Win over Hawks puts Cobras into 5th-19.55pm
 JUL

The Hawks Under 19 drew first blood, in the first of the 3 games this afternoon,
the Hawks lead 1 nil at half time, there was a bit more bite by the young Cobras in the second but  not enough to overcome the Hawks who added a further 3 goals, to run away with a 4 nil thumping.

The Reserves kicked off at 4.00pm, which saw a fierce contest between the 2 teams, the Cobras going into the break one nil up, looked firm. The second half produced quite a few opportunities for both teams but nothing could find the back of the net, The Cobras held on to run out winners 1 nil to square the ledger at 1 game a piece.

The main event is under way with History in the making, the first half saw some exciting football which saw the Cobras take the lead in the 10th minute by Cavallaro, in the 20th minute the hawks hit back to level the score, the main brake saw it dead lock at 1-1 with an intense 45 minutes remaining. Both teams came out firing with the boys from the west taking the lead through a brilliant goal by Paul Karittevlis in the 50th minute, both teams having goals saved, sprayed and missed, this was surely a game that was not to be missed, with about 10 minute remaining defender Peter Scalzi clears the ball off the line, which would of been a certain equaliser for the Hawks, time has run out for the Hawks who were peppering the goals but to no avail the Cobras  defence stood firm  to take the victory 2- 1 and pushes them into the top 5 for the first time this year. With 3 games remaining and only 5 points separating 5th to 9th the season is anything but over.

Cobras crash to Playford - 23.00pm
 JUL

Adelaide Cobras brought down  to earth, by  Playford City,  full  credit to  the  lads from the north  who stuck to  their guns and  kept the pressure  on.  The  2 nil  loss included 7  yellow cards and  a send off. The  first goal  came  in the 42nd  minute mark  of  the  first half,  from   a  corner,  it  appeared  a  lack  of  communication  between  the keeper and  his  defenders  saw  ball  sail  over  eveyone  and   all  the  keeper  could  do  was push  it into  the  top  corner.

Half time saw the visitors with a 1 nil lead and  full of confidence, the second  half  saw  the  Cobras  throw everything  at  Plyaford who stood firm,  an  equaliser  was looming  when  P.Karittevlis  headed  from  a  corenr  came  close,  chances  went  begging for  the boys  in green, midway  through  the  second half  saw a shot  from Playford  which  went  like a  bullet and  heading for  the  top corner, but  Crossley pulled   off  a  fantastic  one  handed  save,  with  15minutes  to go  Maynards  boys  pressed  forward on the break and  saw his boys  go  2 nil up, again indescion by the  keeper saw the ball sail over  his head. Working tirelessly in the middle of the  park was  P.Karittevlis  who  didnt  stop til the end. To front up  after  2  days  was  a  big  ask  for  the  boys  after a  stella  perfomance  on  Saturday.

Best on Ground: Paul Karittevlis, Chris Vounasis, Dalibor Barisic.

Seniors Topple League Leader Enfield 18.30pm
JUL

It was labelled a tough  assignment for Adelaide Cobras to overcome  league  leader Enfield City, the  boys stuck to  their guns and came  out all  guns blazing to  inflict Enfield's second and biggest  defeat of  the  season by winning 4-1. Lead by  veteran and Capitan  Con Karittevlis with hat trick the Cobras looked unstoppable  and keep their unbeaten record at home intact.

The  first  30  minutes  saw  the  Cobras  race  out  to  a  2 nil  lead  which  set  the momentum for great  game,  the  defence was strong  and  solid  as a  rock  lead  by Darren Turner and co. With literally 3 or so
minutes before halftime  Enfield were awarded a penalty.  Goalkeeper  Nick  Crossley did what  he  does best and kept the ball out, his one handed save  was just  magnificent, diving  to his right and pushing the ball  wide enough  causing  the  rebound by the  Enfield  player  to shoot  wide. Going in at half time with a 2- nil lead the boys looked relaxed and felt positive of holding out for win.

On the hour  the boys  extended their  lead to 3 goals, Con Karittevli’s  hatrick was well deserved and the crowd  acknowledge it, a quick  reply from  Enfield  ensured they were not finished and were pressing hard to bridge the  gap, a through  ball out wide to Kerry Phillipou saw him dance around 2 opponents before slotting home the teams 4th goal, which sealed the game with about 10 minutes remaining. It was a great  team effort from all  players and coaches and will  go  down  as a  great  win  for  the club.

Best on Ground: Con Karittevlis, Nick Crossley, Darren Turner.

  11 New Senior Pitch Layout
 JUL

Adelaide  Cobras  will  be  sporting a new pitch layout for the remainder of 2011 season, the layout  will  face West-East and will alleviate  the current  drainage problem in  the southern goal  mouth area, he new layout will accomodate  at  least  95% grass  coverage and  be a huge  move  and a big improvement for  the  club  in  offering  a  pristine playing  arena. The Club will ensure the new layout and goal placement will be ready for the  clash this  Saturday 16/7/11 against  top of the ladder team Enfield  City.  The  new  layout  has  come  about  due to  poor  drainage  and the high possibility of all Senior and Junior games being cancelled. A quick observation and decsion by the committe and Football Managers decided to act in the best interest of player and offical safety to approve the new layout. The FFSA have approved the layout and is greatfull that the Club is working and being proactive in fixing and addresing the probelm at hand. The new pitch  layout will be the same size as the current ground 90meters long a 70 meters wide.

They last  met in  round 6 of the Devine series, which saw Enfield run out winners 2-1, produced 4 yellow cards and 3 goals. The Cobras will be out to atone their round 6 loss, to avoid slipping any further down he ladder.

We anticipate Trajanovski troops will go out all guns blazing to try and unsettle the top team, who has only lost one match this season under Peter Mihalopoulos. One advantage the Cobras do have is they are undefeated at home and it looms as a big and exciting game for both clubs.

For the second  consecutive  week  the match  between  Adelaide  Cobras and  Playford City has  been  postponed,  the  match is  looming  for  a  mid-week  clash between the  two clubs, which are both fighting for survival to stay out of the relegation zone. The clash will probably be on a Wednesday  night at a  neutral venue under  lights. Cobras will be seeking approval to play at couple of venues from FFSA and should have an answer early this week. Stay tuned to find out the details.
